Deliverables:

Takes ownership of network or related issues and works with the IT Manager and where necessary, the Technical Architectto determine a strategic approach to resolution

Produces KPI’s regarding fault calls and root cause analysis of how these may be proactively reduced. Carries out daily checks regarding backups and network health.

Pro-actively monitors the network and network services systems and resolves or escalates (as appropriate) any issues in a timely manner (including where required out of hours support – to standard support contract terms).

Following agreed procedures, receives requests for assistance by providing information to enable callers to solve their problems. Maintains accurate log entries of contact with resolution details and follow-up information

Works with other IT personnel to assist with project activity, as required.

Helps to promote sharing of knowledge within the team by assisting as required in cross training and maintaining a disciplined document management process.

Undertaking other ad-hoc duties within your capabilities relevant to the job and reasonably requested of you by your manager.

Travel to client sites as and when required to support installations.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

Essential:

Strong Knowledge of the following

  • VMware
  • Networking Technologies, including VLANs and Routing
  • Windows Operating Systems
  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • Microsoft Exchange
  • Active Directory, DNS and TCPIP

Good knowledge of the IS infrastructure (hardware, databases, client devices, operating systems, directory services). Good technical understanding of Desktop OS, Server OS, Remote Working methods and their relationships with other systems.

Excellent communication and literacy skills

Dealing effectively with unexpected situations, taking advantage of opportunities and overcoming problems

Has a systematic, disciplined and analytical approach to all work undertaken. Is able to plan, schedule and monitor own work within a limited time horizon, using effectively applicable methods, procedures, tools, equipment and standards.

Demonstrates effective oral and written communication

Is technically aware of relationships between Networking and all other IT infrastructure technologies. Has a broad understanding of Infrastructure technologies and will be the first point of technical contact for the other PSL teams for day to day support issues.

Will work closely with the IT manager. Sign-off for high-impact activities must be gained from the Technical Architect.

Is able to perform a broad range of intermediate activities in a wide variety of contexts.  Has good knowledge of network/system technologies and good commercial knowledge helps them to make informed and tactical decisions to minimise the impact of any decisions or actions that they recommend.

 

Desirable:

Bachelor’s degree in technology-related studies
