Head of Business Transformation

The Head of Business Transformation is an interim role with an initial term of 9-12 months.  The jobholder; 

-       Works across the entire enterprise to optimise corporate efficiency

Reviews and delivers fully documented enterprise and departmental processes

-       Equips the company with modern tools and methods

-       Leaves a legacy of a continuous improvement culture

There is an initial focus on the product and services delivery area.

The Head of Business Transformation is expected to deliver the following;


Scope definition (discovery phase)

  • Identify and consult all stakeholders in the change process
  • Create a Charter and ensure total buy in from the impacted stakeholders
  • Set out a high level plan and agenda, identifying potential obstacles to the programme and suitable mitigations
  • Document anticipated business benefits in terms of improved efficiency and the ability to scale the business


Team creation(initiation phase)

  • Recruit a small team capable of executing the work as identified in the discovery phase within the agreed provisional budget
  • Set out the objectives of that team and agree a modus operandi
  • Validate the initial objectives through the creation of a PID and plan

Identify Business Need(requirements phase)

  • Through a series of interviews and workshops, identify current business processes and problems
  • Document the processes (‘as is’ state)
  • Gather full requirements for a future state operating model
  • Resolve conflicts and concerns
  • Map out the future state, identifying gaps and inconsistencies between the requirements as gathered across the business
  • Document future state processes
  • Identify and prioritise areas for immediate attention (standalone quick wins)

Execution(delivery phase)

  • Create a detailed programme delivery plan with standard artefacts (plan, budget, RACI, RAID)
  • Work with the PMO to ensure the plan can be tracked
  • Gain budgetary approval for the execution phase
  • As required initiate and drive through a vendor selection process for any enterprise tools required
  • Ensure the continued engagement of all stakeholders, supporting line management in the change process


Programme handover(project closure)

  • Ensure that anticipated business benefits can be tracked on a go-forward basis
  • Transition the new processes and tools to a ‘BAU’ state, ensuring that full documentation exists to support a handover
  • Retire redundant tools, ensuring that relevant data is archived
  • Wrap the programme up with ‘lessons learned’ and proposals for future continuous improvement management



  • 5 or more years’ experience of a similar role within the software development sector
  • Evidence of having run significant programmes of change activity with successful commercial outcomes
  • Excellent stakeholder and team management skills
  • Financial management skills including budgetary control and accurate forecasting
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Good attention to detail
  • Experience of embedding new processes
  • Experience of vendor selection, notably in the enterprise tooling space
  • Understanding of software development lifecycles
  • Ability to function in a rapidly changing environment


  • Exposure to a variety of Project Management methodologies including Agile techniques/concepts
  • Mortgage / financial sector

The Head of Business Transformation reports to the Chief Operating Officer and works closely with the senior management team of the entire company.

Key relationships will be with the Executive LeadershipTeam and their direct reports.  The ELT consists of Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Information Officer, Chief Customer Officer, Chief Sales Officer, Chief Technology Officer (and COO).
