Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Phoebus Software recognise the importance of having a positive impact on the lives of others and try to do this through our business processes and engagement with the local community and beyond.

We take our Corporate Social Responsibility very seriously which is clear from the commitment of our staff and from the many charitable initiatives with which we are involved.

For example, PSL supports Kiva – an organisation that allows people to lend money via the internet to microfinance institutions (MFLs) in developing countries, which in turn lend money to small businesses.

PSL recently won the Solihull BID Corporate Social Responsibility award and have previously won the Corporate Social Responsibility award at the Mortgage Finance Gazette Awards in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2021.

Charity Commitment

Each year PSL employees choose a charity to support and our active charity committee and employees raise money through various events and activities throughout the year. In 2019 this has led to a nomination from the Solihull BID awards for Outstanding Corporate Social Responsibility Project – PSL Charity Committee for the support of Acorns Children’s Hospice for which we are very proud. Our two year partnership with Acorns Children’s Hospice over the course of  2019 and 2020 involved employees at Phoebus Software raising a combined total of just over £15,500 through participating in many fundraising activities.

2021 Fundraising

Phoebus Software will be supporting the UK’s largest charity fighting hunger and food waste, FareShare. Our charity committee have set a fundraising target of £10,000 to raise for FareShare this year.

The charity is currently redistributing surplus food, the equivalent of more than 2 million meals, every week to vulnerable people and families across the UK. The footballer and campaigner, Marcus Rashford, is one of FareShare’s Ambassadors.

Phoebus Software’s sales and marketing director Richard Pike says: “The impact of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic is being felt by thousands of frontline charities here in the UK. We recognise the crucial work being done by FareShare to relieve food poverty and ensure two million meals reach the most vulnerable people across the country every week.

“We hope that with our target of £10,000, we will be able to support FareShare as best we can, so that it can continue essential work in supporting frontline charities who have been hit the hardest from a universal decrease in funding due to Covid-19.”

Lindsay Boswell, CEO of FareShare said: “One in five of the charities we support, say they would have to close if we stopped distributing food to them via the FareShare network. It is down to the determination and generosity of companies like Phoebus Software that we can continue to offer vital support to people experiencing food poverty in the UK.

We’re so thrilled to announce that during the first quarter of 2021, we have raised an incredible £5,000 towards our £10,000 target.

March 2021: 10,000 steps a day challenge:

Our most recent fundraising activity was the ‘10,000 steps a day challenge’.  From this challenge alone PSL raised over £1,500 towards our fundraising for FareShare. This amount enabled 6000 meals to be provided to those in need.

We’d like to share with you a short video from some of the ‘10K STEPS A DAY’ challengers.

Carbon Neutral

PSL has been carbon neutral since 2010!

In 2010 we had a greenhouse gas audit carried out by the carbon management provider CO²balance UK. They found that we created just 1.69 tonnes of CO² per employee – much less than the national average of 3.0 tonnes.

Local Education Development

At PSL we actively build partnerships with local education providers and take an active role in the support and development of local business enterprise.

PSL is a member of Aston University Computer Science Industry Club.

“The Computer Science Industry Club at Aston brings together students, academics and industry professionals. We work with our partners across three key areas: research, curriculum development and employability. Phoebus joined the programme in 2016 and were instrumental to the Clubs early development, advising on the Industry Club format and how it should be pitched to businesses. They have supported us in various ways, by generously donating prizes for student competitions, and attending showcase events to provide students with valuable feedback. We also work closely with the recruitment team who have hired several Aston placement students and graduates. Our partnership with Phoebus adds enormous value to the student experience. We look forward to exploring new avenues for collaboration, such as research, and continuing the positive and productive relationship we have with them.”

– Dr Maria Chli, Reader in Computer Science, Aston University
